A free spirit, researcher, filmmaker, and naturalist, Cyrille Cornu has a deep passion for baobabs. The author of numerous publications on the subject, he embarks on expeditions each year to study these giants in the most remote forests of Madagascar. Inspired by the beauty of the island, this tireless traveler made his first film in 2015 titled “Baobabs between land and sea.” Surprised by the success of this first venture into the audiovisual world, he has since dedicated himself to creating documentaries and engaging in photographic and literary projects. He is currently working on a series, with “Mamody, the Last Baobab Researcher” as the first episode, and the next two installments are in production.

The trip we offer takes place in the southwestern part of the island, between the cities of Morondava and Tuléar. Throughout this journey, you will benefit from Cyrille’s expertise, as he will guide you and provide the necessary knowledge to understand the extraordinary diversity of baobabs on the Great Island. This conference, organized closely around the topic, is a naturalistic journey at its core. As night falls, you will have the chance to witness an unforgettable spectacle: the blooming of a baobab flower. You will observe the animals visiting these flowers, approach the most beautiful specimens of baobabs in perfectly preserved ecosystems, and encounter the island's most powerful as well as its smallest baobabs. During the expedition, Cyrille will share with you the fruits of his years of research. He will discuss the impact of deforestation and climate change, as well as many local practices related to these giants, including the unique practice of baobab diggers in the Mahafaly Plateau region, who create water cisterns inside baobabs to survive in this extremely arid area!
