The company Détours Madagascar is characterized by a deeply committed vision and strong values in terms of sustainable development. The actions carried out with its office and field teams, travelers, and in the selection of its partners align with these values, and the desire to progress toward this direction is clearly present.
Of course, there is still room for improvement at many levels: continued training and awareness-raising for teams, strengthening general culture, creative and innovative thinking, the development of new solidarity projects, and improved responsible communication.
The difficulty lies in finding the right balance between words and actions and avoiding rhetoric without concrete actions. Perfection is unattainable: contradictions will always be present when it comes to sustainable development, particularly in the tourism sector, where the act of flying already constitutes a significant contradiction in itself.
The challenge, therefore, is to realistically set one's own standards and strive to stick to them as best as possible in practice. Methods of control and evaluation must necessarily be carefully thought out and implemented, in addition to the actions taken, to assess their impacts and developments over time.
The reflection should also go beyond the limits of the agency to become a broader discussion at the national level and beyond Madagascar's borders.
