Cap Sainte Marie - Guide Madagascar - Détours Madagascar

Cap Sainte Marie

Cap Sainte-Marie is the southernmost point of Madagascar. Also known as Tanjona Vohimena, this area is located 250 km from Fort-Dauphin and about 60 km from Tsihombe. It is particularly renowned for its stunning fine sandy beach and majestic dunes.

The Cap Sainte-Marie Special Reserve is home to two endangered species of land tortoises: the radiated tortoise (Astrochelys radiata) and the spider tortoise (Pyxis arachnoides). In the dunes, you may occasionally spot a sand lizard endemic to the region, as well as fragments of elephant bird eggshells (Vorombe), a now-extinct species.

Offshore, visitors can witness the migration of humpback whales from June to October.
